Giriş
We have investigated the role of free radical formation in early abortion.
Yöntem
Serum malondialdehyde, erytrocyte glutathione Peroxidase and superoxide dysmutase levels of 23 patients who had early abortions before the 8 th week, and of the 25 patients who had normal pregnancies with gestational ages were less than 8 weeks were measured in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at S. D. University, Isparta, Turkey.
Bulgular
While the malondialdehyde, glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dysmutase levels were 66.4 ± 13.7 nmol/ml, 113.8 ±34.2 IU/L and 192.5 ± 21.5 IU/ml in the abortion group, these levels were 40.3 ± 16.2 nmol/ml, 119.6 ± 27.6 IU/L and 219.6 ± 25.9 IU/ml in the control group. However the levels of malondialdehyde were significantly increased (p<0.01) in the abortion group, superoxide dysmutase level was found to be significantly decreased, (p<0.05). No difference was found between the levels of glutathione peroxidase in each group. Student's t test were used to compare the levels of malondialdehyde and enzymes.
Sonuç
These results suggest that in early abortions before the 8th week, lipid peroxidation is increased and the antioxidant system is compromised.
